A wild bush growing in nutritious Groves commonly mostly in southern Finland. The flowers are small and the red berries poisonous. It is understandable that this species is seldom used as decorative plant. It is also a common delicacy for many insects and is of that reason nearly always more or less eaten up. I have anyway planted some bushes in my garden - just for the same reason. L. xylosteum is main food plant for several rare butterflies and moths.
