Herniaria glabra (Tyräruoho)

This tiny weed is common only in south Finland. It prefers dry and sunny places. The flowers are numerous but small and green, so the plant looks like just a narrow green flowerless rope. Usually the plant lives one or few years and is not good fighter with other species. But when the nature makes a new bare opening in a sandy soil, Herniaria may be there among the first pioneers.
