In Europe a common shrub found everywhere, but not in the boreal region. The northernmost wild bushes may be found in south Sweden. It has not hard to survive in south Finland as well, at least in warmer places. The leaves are here semi-wintergreen: they fall down just in the spring, when the first new leaves appear. I have several bushes in my garden, partly of Swedish and partly of Italian origin.
