Fagus sylvatica (Pyökki)

Though beech belongs to typical European deciduous forest, it is in Finland very rare. There are just few small beech forests on the southwest coast and even in the parks there are extremely seldom beeches. It has simply difficult in our climate. In my garden there are 2 Fagus of Finnish origin and they have grown in normal tempo without to show any signs of suffering. For me beech is important because of my great interest in nature: the mshrooms. Beech is a mycorrhizal host plant to many mushroom extremely seldom seen in Finland.
